A Forest Encounter. This is a piece depicting a forest environment near the #Bahariya Delta. I wanted to produce a piece of #paleoart showing #Spinosaurus in a forest, away from water, and I also wanted to show just how massive some of the trees would have been. #paleobotany
Yeeee! Lots of plant mini sketches! #paleobotany #palnts #paleoart #bahariya #sciart twitter.com/JulianPalaeoAR…
I'm working on something big-ish atm which'll hopefully be useful, but unfortunately I'm not sure when it'll be finished (hopefully soon). So to hold you over till then here's another one of the diagrams from it! #paleobotany #paleoart #plants #Spinosaurus #FossilFriday
I've done a bit more work on Bahariya Formation fossil #plants. This is an infographic showing the possible distributions of different plants and their rough sizes and life habits. These are based on both macro and microfossils. #paleobotany #paleoart #paleontology #Spinosaurus
As usual I've gotten a little carried away with this, but I am really enjoying this silhouette size/ecology chart! It'll take a little longer than planned to finish though, but will hopefully be useful . #paleoart #paleobotany #plants #Spinosaurus #BahariyaFormation
Finished for now! Behold! The marvelous diversity of #Angiosperm leaves from the #Bahariya Formation of Egypt! These are all from #plants which coexisted with #Spinosaurus. #paleoart #FossilFriday #paleobotany #paleontology
I've just managed watched @TheVidax's fantastic talk on restoring ammonites, from last weekend's #PaleostreamCon. So here're a few #ammonites! #paleoart #paleostream #paleontology
Share your #paleoart and your favourite #paleoartists! Just a few things from me. Some of my favourite #artists would have to be @SerpenIllus, @BStokkermans, @ncdraw, @VilleSinkkonen and @MaijaKarala. Also Pollyanna von Knorring and Graham Seymour who aren't on twitter. twitter.com/Tomozaurus/sta…
Happy #FossilFriday, and here's another illustration for @Palaeofox/ PalaeoGames' new #TTRPG sourcebook! palaeogames.com This is a restoration of Nelumbites, a #Cretaceous #lotusflower🪷. Unlike modern lotus flowers, fossil species can have heart-shaped leaves. #paleoart
Happy #StPatrickDay and happy #FossilFriday! I thought I'd share an illustration I've done for @Palaeofox/ PalaeoGames new TTRPG sourcebook! palaeogames.com This is #Marsilea, a type of aquatic #fern found both today and during the Mesozoic.#paleobotany #paleoart #botany
It's so nice to be doing some #palaeobotanical reconstructions again! Tonight I'm doing a little bit of work on #Anomozamites angustifolium, a #bennettitalean leaf taxon from the late #Triassic. #paleobotany #plants #paleoart
#MerryChristmas and #HappyHolidays to everyone over this weekend! I hope you have a lovely time! #FossilFriday #paleoart #Anchiornis #Christmas #winter
Haven't been very productive this year in the art department (although I have done a bunch of stuff I can't yet share), but here's my scrambling attempt at an #artvsartist2022. #paleobotany #paleoart #plants #sciart
So, I ended up writing a blog post looking at the #kalligrammatids and how to restore them. I hope you find this interesting and useful! palaeoflora.blogspot.com/2022/11/restor… #paleoart #paleontology #insects #SciComm
Just adding the finishing touches to a new blog post.... you can probably guess what it'll be about, but here's a final little snippet before I share it in the morning. #paleoart #paleontology #insects #kalligrammatids #dinosaurs
Hey all, I finished my nectar-feeding #kalligrammatid diversity diagram! It was very interesting to do and the diversity of their wing and body shapes is incredible!!! It was also interesting to see the diversity of eyespots present. #paleoart #paleontology #insects
Finished my illustration of #Oregramma illecebrosa taking off from someones finger. Eyespots are known for this species and would have acted a a predator deterrent. This species also had a proboscis for feeding on nectar. #kalligrammattid #paleoart #lacewing #FossilFriday
Happy #FossilFriday. More #kalligrammatids this week; this is #Oregramma illecebrosa, about to take off from someone's hand. This is a pen sketch which I'll be colouring digitally. #WIP #paleontology #insect #lacewing #paleoart #entomology #Yixian
Happy #FossilFriday (hopefully not the last one here). I've nothing new, so here's a blog post I wrote last year on the #Conifers of the Crato Formation! Anyway, I hope to continue to see you all here. Toodles #paleobotany #paleontology #paleoart palaeoflora.blogspot.com/2021/08/conife…
However, by the end of the Devonian the evolution of a more complex vascular arrangements allowed land plants to grow larger and live further away from water. The evolution of the first seed plants at this time also allowed plants to grow in dryer soils. #paleobotany #paleoart
Happy #FossilFriday everyone. This week I'm sharing a couple of paintings I recently made to promote a new piece of research by @BoudaLab et al. (science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…) These two paintings are from the Early and Late Devonian. #paleobotany #botany #palaeontology #paleoart
Early Devonian land plants are weird... also most Cooksonia species are tiny! #paleobotany #paleoart #plants #botany #Devonian #cooksonia
Just uncovered some old GCSE and A Level artwork. I haven't seen any of these in years. #art #fantasyart #paleoart #mimicoctopus #davidattenborough
