day 26 studies head value studies with ref, trying to replicate a clay like hair, the streaks of lighter value is important to give off shine to shape the forms
day 25 studies trying to draw more realistic lighting, its pretty hard, so many subtle gradients, and this is with refs too, doing it without would be really hard
day 24 studies asaro head lighting study I saw a good ref from artstation with a rotateable 3D head and light. on head no 3, the slight gradation really helps give the form shape, for when the light is direction is almost perpendicular to the normal of the face plane
day 20 studies trying to focus on how to be more efficient with brush strokes, my current pipeline is lassoing the shadows, then add highlights, then blur, and finally finishing touches.
day 17 studies clothing render practice from monochrome, but with added colour balance. its cool how by just having correct values, you can change the colour and it still looks right. values really is the foundation of painting
day 14 studies clothing renders again, but with more grouped up values, and less blending. Shapes are more apparent with higher contrast I need to add more common folding patterns to my visual library
day 3 study scrolling through david briggsโ website on dimensions of colour, one of the topics was relative brightness, so its a constant ratio from light to shadows, and if you eyeball it, darker values have lower decrease in shadow values
day 1 study back to basics, I completely forgot that overcast lighting exists - retaining more of the base values, instead of harsh contrast on harsh lights also same surface gradation(?) not sure how the maths behind this works yet. It cant just be ambient occlusion right
