And lastly, for NEST (an #inktober2022 day 9 and #SundayFishSketch double-whammy), a lungfish (Protopterus annectens). #TeamFish #sciart
Next up, MATCH (day 8) and the manta ray. I believe that you're able to ID an individual using the spots on it's abdomen, which is pretty great! #inktober2022 #TeamFish #SundayFishSketch
It's a 3-for-1 #TeamFish-themed #inktober2022 kind of day (let's not forget #SundayFishSketch too). Up first, TRIP, and the giant kingfish (Caranx ignobilis).
A rosy goatfish (Parupeneus rubescens) for #inktober2022 Day 6 | BOUQUET. A Western Indian Ocean species, these fish occur along the #SouthAfrican east coast, right up to the southern tip of Africa at Cape Agulhas. #TeamFish #sciart
A fiery redfin (Pseudobarbus phlegethon) for today's #TeamFish-themed #inktober2022 | FLAME 🔥 This #SouthAfrican endemic is only found in the tributaries of the Clanwilliam Olifants River, so is super Endangered (and threatened by habitat destruction and introduced bass).
A longfin batfish (Platax teira) for #inktober2022 Day 3 | BAT. These beauties, which can reach a length of 65 cm, have a fairly widespread distribution, and occur along the #SouthAfrican east coast right down to Knysna in the Western Cape Province. #TeamFish #sciart
#inktober2022day2 is probably more #SundayFishSketch (bioluminescence) than #inktober2022 (scurry). Pineapple fish have bioluminescent bacteria around their mouths to lure planktonic invertebrates and small fish close to feed! Sneaky little predators. #TeamFish #sciart
A belated #inktober2022 day 1 post for gargoyle: a stonefish; it's thought to be the most venomous fish in the world, and mostly occurs in #SouthAfrica in northern KZN. #TeamFish #sciart #SundayFishSketch
My #TeamFish-themed #SciArtSeptember has officially come to an end! I'm proud to have managed (but didn't keep up) all 30 prompts. Here's looking at you, @inktober #inktober2022 where, like @mmustelus, I'm hoping to do #SouthAfrican species! 🐟🎨
Playing #inktober2021 catch-up today (and off-theme #SundayFishSketch)! Firstly, a flying gurnard AKA a helmet gurnard for #inktober2021day15 - "helmet". This was a pretty tricky drawing. #TeamFish #sciart
Another new species for me - the Mariana snailfish - for today's #inktober2021 theme, "pressure". This fish is found in the deepest trench in the world, at depths of over 8km!!! The pressure must just be so immense. #inktober2021day9 #TeamFish #sciart
This frogfish (prompt = crawl) brings my #inktober2020 to an end. Phew... that was tough, but enjoyed it! #TeamFish #sciart #pendrawing
Having to play catch up again 🤦♀️ #inktober2020day27 - music: a Chinese trumpetfish, black drum and giant guitarfish. #inktober2020day28 - float: a saddled puffer or black saddled toby. #TeamFish #sciart #pendrawing #ichthtober #inktober2020
Some fish are excellent hiders, making use of all kinds of camouflage. That includes this leafy sea dragon (#inktober2020day26 - hide). #inktober2020 #TeamFish #sciart #pendrawing
Phew! Finally caught up with #inktober2020. Day 21 - sleep: Pacific sleeper shark Day 23 - rip: White shark Day 24 - dig: Spotted garden eel Day 25 - buddy: Remora #TeamFish #sciart #pendrawing #ichthtober
I've fallen behind #inktober2020... again 🙄 Here's a yellowfin tuna for today's prompt - chef. #TeamFish #sciart #pendrawing #ichthtober
Fell behind yesterday but managed to catch up today! Here's a spinner shark ("dizzy") and a threadfin butterflyfish ("coral") for #inktober2020. #TeamFish #sciart #ichthtober #pendrawing
Off-theme #SundayFishSketch and #inktober2020, but an Atlantic cod for your perusal 🐟 #TeamFish #sciart #pendrawing
Didn't quite do this beauty justice but here's a clown killifish AKA rocket killifish for today's #inktober2020 ("rocket"). #TeamFish #sciart #pendrawing
Today's #inktober2020 prompt ("outpost") was super tricky and couldn't come up with anything appropriate, so drew this mackerel instead 🐟 #TeamFish #sciart #ichthtober
An armoured gurnard for today's #inktober2020 prompt - "armour". #TeamFish #sciart #pendrawing #ichthtober
When I saw today's #inktober2020 prompt "dune", I thought sand... sand... sandshark! So, here's a giant sandshark (now called a whitespotted wedgefish) for today's drawing.
Yesterday's #inktober2020 prompt was "slippery". I feel like eels have gotten a bad rap (as slippery as an eel) but there is nothing devious or elusive about this African mottled eel. #TeamFish #sciart #ichthtober
Completely off-theme #SundayFishSketch but if a beer had a hagfish on it, it might make the beer too "disgusting" to drink! #inktober2020 #TeamFish
