Here's part 1 of my #SixFanarts challenge: Zeit from Trails from Zero 🐺 (suggested by @eltehh)
#Inktober2019, day 31: Will-o-wisp, a sinister little spirit that would show itself to lone travellers at night and lead them far away from safety, oftentimes causing them to be lost forever. ... and this little fiery fellow marks the official end of Inktober for me!
#Inktober2019, day 30: Snallygaster. A most grotesque cryptid, it was described as a one-eyed bird-reptile hybrid with a metallic beak and a set of tentacles. Known for the terrific screeching sound it made. Apparently, painting a seven-pointed star on a building kept it at bay.
#Inktober2019, day 29: Arachne, an extremely talented weaver who had challenged Athena, the goddess of crafts, to a weaving contest, and actually came out victorious. Unfortunately for her, Greek gods are ruthless and she was transformed into a spider as punishment for her hubris
Day 28 of #Inktober2019: Teke Teke, a Japanese urban legend about a vicious spirit, or rather half of one, walking on her hands, named after the sound she's supposed to be making while doing so. All she appears to be interested in doing is helping others become just like her, heh
#Inktober2019, day 27: Naga. Nagas are a semi-divine race of serpents in Buddhist/Hindu mythology, living in the underworld, surrounded by gold and gems. While potentially very dangerous to humans, they have proved to be important allies to the gods numerous times in the past.
Day 26 of #Inktober2019: Hiisi, an ancient Finnish forest god associated with hoofed animals. At some point misinterpreted as evil, he's now being described as a violent and ruthless being, which is why he may be choosing to avoid contact with humans.
#Inktober2019, day 24: Matagot. A French spirit under the form of a cat, generally evil. Just like a lot of other minor demonic beings of this kind, it can be bribed with food to help one get wealthy. Although, it should be noted that dealing with demons is not exactly advisable.
#Inktober2019, day 23: Urayuli. . "The Urayuli, tall as trees Play host to several million fleas And use their luminescent eyes To first locate, then hypnotise The deer and elk they like to eat But keep the antlers to scratch their feet"
#Inktober2019, day 22: La Llorona, a legend famous in Latin America. After losing her own sons in a blind rage, she was cursed to wander for all eternity, looking around for their remains. Often mistaking random children for their own, she'll attempt to kidnap them at night.
#Inktober2019, day 21: Kitsune. Another popular one. Kitsune literally means fox in Japanese. It was believed that they were magical creatures capable of shapeshifting and much more, depending on how many tails they had, growing a new one every 100 years, with 9 being the limit.
#Inktober2019, day 20: Thriae, a trio of nymphs from Greek mythology that were the patrons of bees, apparently sometimes shown as half-bees as well. Or maybe ~80% bees. I chose to draw only one Thria (?), otherwise it'd be unfair towards the other monsters from this challenge :p
Day 19 of #Inktober2019: Lamia. Lamiae were originally hideous, man-eating, shape-shifting, female ogre-like creatures. Also known for their low intelligence, they were apparently incredibly easy to deceive.
#Inktober2019, day 18: Satyr. Some mythical creatures don't really need to be introduced. This short, hairy, half-goat, alcohol & ladies-loving fellow is one of them.
#Inktober2019, day 17: Kikimora, a malicious creature that'd live in cursed households and actively ruin the lives of their inhabitants, especially men. Once a year, she'd also give birth to numerous offspring and then let them free so they could find their own houses to haunt.
#Inktober2019, day 16: Boggart. "Shaggy hair", "eyes like saucers, and "arms as long as tackle poles" - this English ogre-like spirit is definitely something.
Day 15 of #Inktober2019: Selkie, a Scottish mythical creature capable of changing from seal to a beautiful human being. Didn't know where to take this one, so here's a sad seal-person
Day 14 of #Inktober2019: the Jersey Devil. Another American urban legend, another cryptid. At first, I wanted to go with a more traditional depiction of this horse/goat-headed monster but then I remembered that the Damascus goat exists, which inspired me to do... something else.
