It is that time of the year again, so here is my #artvsartist2022 Thank you to everyone supporting me this year! Which one of these pictures from 2022 do you like best? Or do you have another favourite piece from this year? 🖼 #artvsartist
Night in Mirkwood - for #inktober2022bat 🦇 I decided to depict this scene from the Hobbit where bats are one of the nuisances that appear when the dwarves and Bilbo try to light a fire at night as they go through #Mirkwood. 🦇 #inktober2022bat #inktober2022day3 #inktober
Something for Day 1 of #Inktober2022 "Gargoyle" – the Fell Beast of Mordor perched like a gargoyle atop the wall of Barad-dûr, with Orodruin in the background. The design of the tower may seem unusual but it is directly borrowed from Tolkien's own illustration.
Apparently #FaceYourArt2022 is a thing, so I decided to face it with a selection of my art from roughly past year. Luckily I draw more characters than I used to. And unsurprisingly, 8 out of 9 are Tolkien-inspired. Which one of them is your favourite? 🙂 #FaceYourArt
Apparently a bandwagon is going by that needs to be jumped on. 😜 So here we go #artvsartist2021 Thank you all wonderful people for your ongoing support! 🤗 Which one of these recent pictures do you like best? Or do you have another favourite piece from my recent art?
Lembas for #Inktober2021crispy - waybread of the elves, wrapped in mallorn leaves 🍃 A little different from the popular depiction in the film, but closer to Tolkien's text. What do you think about it? 🙂 #lembas #inktober #tolkienart
The Dragon is Coming 🐉 for #Inktober27spark "Before long, so great was his speed, they could see him as a spark of fire rushing towards them and growing ever huger and more bright .... and the lake rippled red as fire beneath the beating of his wings." #inktober #tolkienart
The Fell Beast of Mordor for #inktober2021extinct This was my first idea for "Extinct": A creature that is not quite extinct, but Tolkien essentially says it should be: "outstayed their day, and in hideous eyrie bred this last untimely brood, apt to evil. #tolkienart #inktober
The original Minas Tirith – the Tower of Watch on the island of Tol Sirion, built by Finrod Felagund. An old picture from 2010, at the time I think one of my best, now I was reminded of it thanks to the #inktober2021watch prompt. #inktober2021 #inktober2021day8watch #tolkienart
Anar, the Sun as described in the #Silmarillion, for #Inktober2021vessel 🌞 I really love the idea, because it captures more than one meaning of the word "vessel" – it is both a container to hold the last golden fruit of Laurelin and a ship to traverse the sky. #inktober2021
The Silmarils heraldic device for #inktober2021crystal Did you know that J. R. R. Tolkien invented a whole system of elvish heraldry? But this is probably the only heraldic device not intended for a person but a thing (the Silmarils are of course special 💎💎💎) #inktober2021
deviantArt-style Summary of Art – my personal choice of 12 representative pieces I made in 2020. Mostly #inktober stuff, just a few coloured pictures, but still more than in 2019. 🙂 More details here: deviantart.com/matejcadil/art… #tolkienart #2020summaryofart #summaryofart2020
#drawthisagain - The Black Gate of Mordor. Although I didn't draw the new picture on purpose for this comparison (but rather for #inktober2020), I still think it might be interesting to show this, when I already drew a very similar view once before. 🙂 #tolkienart
A recap of my Tolkien-themed #Inktober2020 pictures. I managed to do 17 of the total 31 – more than a half, which is a success for me. 🙂 Which one is your favourite? (See them in detail in the thread) #tolkienart #Tolkien #LordOfTheRings
Fog on the Barrow-Downs. Belatedly for #inktober2020 Day 30 "Ominous". I wanted to do one more Inktober picture, my last one for this year, because I really like this ominous scene for the prompt. #inktober2020ominous #tolkienart
"Round the corner came a black horse and on it sat a large man, who seemed to crouch in the saddle, wrapped in a great black cloak and hood, his face was shadowed and invisible." The Black Rider. For #inktober2020 Day 26 "Hide". #inktober2020hide #inktober2020day26 #tolkienart
The Sleep of Yavanna. For #inktober2020 Day 21 "Sleep" "But already the oldest living things had arisen: on earth the shadow of great trees; and in the valleys of the night-clad hills there were dark creatures old and strong. 📖 #TheSilmarillion #inktober2020sleep #tolkienart
For #inktober2020 Day 17 "storm" – the storm in the Misty Mountains in The Hobbit; based on a drawing "the Mountain-path" by J. R. R. Tolkien himself. #inktober2020storm #inktobertolkien #tolkienart
"The finest rockets ever seen: they burst in stars of blue and green, or after thunder golden showers came falling like a rain of flowers." For #inktober2020 day 16 "Rocket" – Gandalf's fireworks as described by Sam in a song. #inktober2020rocket #tolkienart
The Tower of Cirith Ungol – for #inktober2020 Day 15 prompt "outpost". The tower where Frodo was captured by orcs and rescued by Sam. Originally it was built as a Gondorian outpost of the defences of Ithilien against Mordor. #inktober2020outpost #tolkienart #inktober2020day15
Turgon's armour in Vinyamar, as described in The Unfinished Tales, Of Tuor and His Coming to Gondolin. For #inktober2020 Day 14 prompt "armor". #inktober2020armor #tolkkienart
For #inktober2020 Day 11 "disgusting": The cave where Will, Tom and Bert, the three trolls from the Hobbit, used to dwell. I hope you like it... or actually don't like it, as it is supposed to be disgusting. You know what I mean. 🙂 #inktober2020disgusting #tolkienart
"They had reached a low ashen hill piled at the Mountain's foot; but from it there was no more escape. It was an island now, not long to endure (...) And so it was that Gwaihir saw them with his keen far-seeing eye." For #inktober2020 Day 10 "Hope" #tolkienart #inktober2020hope
