@gatorstooth Some people were interested so here goes- the short version of it is the shelf that hippos (and all mammals) have is explicitly to house jaw muscles. Reptiles lack this- the jaw muscles of Triceratops actually anchor towards the base of the frill, weaving under the jugal horn.

There is absolutely no way some people spent extra time looking at the teeth in the Prehistoric Planet Tyrannosaurus model. And then said it was wrong. As if the Tyrannosaurus is not the most likely to have plethora of skull references and a pantheon of expert advisors.
