Oh #mammals. I’ve been #teambird and #teaminvertebrate for so long, I’ve never really given you a fair shake. Someday! One inch square river #otter for today’s #Sciartober #sciart #inktober
Small #inktober/#sciartober sketches were supposed to let me chill about them. Instead I just use progressively smaller pens 🤦🏼♀️. Happy #avian prompt #sciart #kingfisher...!
Keeping it small to keep ambition in check and keep #Inktober stress free (Just the drawing itself, I mean. It is 2020). Day 2 of @GNSIorg prompt #Sciartober #inktober2020: Colony, a family of beavers.
Slightly blingy #daphnia for day 17’s #microscopic (time is not moving slower for me, at least not as far I perceive it, I’m just still behind). #Inktober2019 #sciart #zooplankton
I went down an info rabbit hole trying to remember what #beetle I’d seen a box turtle eating once and found out there’s a genus of #Scarab beetles called #tumblebugs. So that made my day 16 #inktober choice easy (prompt “reptile”). #SciArt #Inktober2019
You know what’s a lovely word? Bioluminescence. Day 14 #inktober #lightningbug/#firefly (actually I’m a #beetle). #coleopterarocks #sciart
What other #invertebrate could you choose for a “geology” #inktober prompt? These critters never cease to amaze me - teeny #freshwater stonemasons.
I love adult odonates, but these #exoskeleton leavings from nymphs spark so much wonder for small explorers. Where is the “airborne” #dragonfly? #sciart #inktober
That champion of #vermicompost, the #redworm. Thanks to the curiosity of our 3yo I can now tell you that these #worms create cocoons - babies emerge ~3wks later, depending on how warm it is outside. The things you learn when you’re asked Why 400x/day. #SciArt #Inktober2019
First #invertebrate #hero for #Inktober2019: the “flower flies,” or less romantically, hoverflies/Syrphid #flies. #Pollinators w/predatory larvae (some spp larvae can eat 200 aphids during their lifespan), there are over 6,000 spp worldwide in 200 genera. #Inktober #Sciart
These are some of the types of organisms I'm thinking of including in my #invertebrate #Inktober2019, plus the #redworm suggestion from @KaraHaaSciEd - what else you do want to see? Prob #spiders? #Starfish? #Plankton? #Inktober #SciArt #biodiversity #pollinators
Hey, all. #Inktober is just around the corner and my 2019 feed will be all about #invertebrates. Respond with your favorite unsung heroes (#terrestrial or #aquatic), and I'll try to fit 'em all in. (Bonus if you include why you consider them a hero!) #SciArt #Inktober2019
